Students must earn a 70% or higher average on attendance. This includes attending in-person lectures and labs, synchronous remote lectures, and weekly code reviews.
Students that are unwell should prioritize their own health and the health of others by not attending class. Students do not need to seek permission to miss class unless there is an exam scheduled. Students must have a documented emergency or formal accommodations through Student Disability Services to complete the exams on a different date.
Students may occasionally miss lectures or labs and still earn the required average. Students that regularly miss class and fall below the 70% threshold should reach out to the instructor for an advising appointment.
Students that miss a scheduled code review appointment are not guaranteed another opportunity that week. However, the instructor will attempt to reschedule the appointment as availability allows.
Attendance is self-reported by students and occasionally verified by the instructor. Misrepresenting attendance will be considered a violation of academic integrity.
Email will not be used by the instructor or teacher assistants.
This course uses Piazza for most course communication and announcements. A signup link will be available on the Instructure Canvas website. Students may post privately to the instructor for sensitive personal matters. Canvas and GitHub will also be used where appropriate.
All students must adhere to the Student Conduct Code on campus and at any related University event.
Students should also be mindful of ways language and terminology, especially within the CS and tech fields, are anti-inclusive to many communities. Refer to the Google Developer Documentation Style Guide and the UW IT Inclusive Language Guide for concrete examples of how to speak and write more inclusively within this field.
One unit of credit in lecture, seminar, and discussion work approximates one hour of direct faculty instruction (or 50 minutes plus a break) and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work per week through one 15-week semester. For further details, see USF’s Credit Hour Policy.
All students may miss an occasional class, submit an occasional assignment late, and retake an exam once. Students do not need to provide documentation to access those accommodations. Further flexibility is provided on a case-by-case basis in coordination with CASA or SDS.
